Speaking of the books building up to something, we have the stake and other details which are important, but I also remember The Fates talking to Anastasia at the end of book 3 where they mention how she's something they've never seen before and how her threads are different or unique, I can't remember exactly what. I could be wrong but between Wilfred's vision of the stake, what the sirens said about fate not being good or bad, Wilfred's parents making a comment about Anastasia, and some other things, I feel like we might get to see clues about what's coming based on Wilfred's visions and that Anastasia is going to play a big role in whatever is coming (and not just because she's the main character lol). Maybe something like she as the only human has a power outside fate that none of the rest do or can do something the others can't because they are bound by it.

What's the show? They're cute! If it has a similar premise I want to watch.
The Owl House, I definitely think you'd like it. It was canceled, probably because it's good (I'm not bitter or anything) but still worth it imo. You're not gonna be able to unsee it. :P

That's true too, maybe? When they said that I figured they were just talking about how weird her life has been up to that point. But I want to believe you because it makes it sound much more badass lol. I could argue for it too, like she's from another world completely where as far as we know the Fates don't have any influence? But then I would think that she wouldn't have any threads to read, but she does, so it seems like she has her own fate like everyone else.

You guys get the newsletter story? It was super cute. I loved the dinner scene with Didrixe's parents. I'm also going to be really disappointed if Poseidon doesn't show up at some point in the series with as many times as Ana says she wants to punch him. :P

It was just really wholesome in general. Ana is desperate to get a good gift for Didrixe so she's asking literally everyone for advice (and apparently all of her friends are really good at giving gifts lol). Ana is kind of a dork but her heart is always in the right place, she's a sweetheart. I like the way she combined everyone's advice.

My favorite character is the tree though, I love that the Graves family decided to get a giant carnivorous plant and put it in their house and still decorate it, and it apparently starts eating anything that gets too close to it. :P And even Didrixe starts to have this horrified reaction before she remembers where she is, like wait, I'm at the Graves house, this is one of the least weird things I've seen here.

The dinner scene was so funny, I love that people in that world try to replicate human traditions but they only know a little bit so they get it horrifyingly wrong LOL. Like oh yeah, humans totally decorate their trees with the severed limbs of their enemies to scare away the Santa Claws. I wonder how much this changes the way Didrixe's parents think of Ana, like jesus maybe all humans really ARE like this. It was SUPER CUTE though. She just wants to do right by her gf so bad. I feel it tbh, I'm not good at giving gifts IMO, or if I am then it comes after a lot of anxiety and overthinking on my part. Welcome to the adult world Anastasia, feel good holiday cheer is a mask for panic!

The tree was awesome. The Graves family is really just if the Addams Family had magic LOL.

This is what I've been thinking. I was rewatching Wednesday on Netflix recently and the 90s movies and yeah. A carnivorous tree for the holidays, the grandma who likes knives and fights poltergeists, the gargoyles, the random explosions that everyone treats as completely normal, the way Vixel's room is filled with spiders, etc. I remember from the books too, her dad offers to jump off the roof to help Vixel practice her healing, he challenges Didrixe to an archery contest and shoots an arrow through the neighbors window and they instantly know who did it, like it happens all the time. Ana even says a few times that her family is weird even for that world so yeah it's basically what you said and it's only a good thing rofl.

It was a cute story. I loved that Didrixe put little ribbons on her snakes, that's so fucking cute. I also completely relate with the stress of holiday shopping and also completely overthinking her gift. Her little panic over how she might be a bad girlfriend because she doesn't immediately know the perfect gift to give her. She's trying so hard and I love her. I liked that DIdrixe ended up revealing that she was just as scared and uncertain. Vixel gave her the best advice imo.

ALL THAT SAID though I want to know more about her dad because he has some of the coolest magic I've ever seen and it's just kind of mentioned in passing. Like yeah her mom makes it snow but he's out here conjuring reindeer and a sled and flying his kids across the neighborhood and bringing their snowmen to life and shit. At the end of the third book too he does all this magic inside the house to make plants bloom and idk it seems so ethereal and comfortable. But there's also something mysterious about him and I don't know how to explain it but yeah I want to learn more.

Edit: I also have to say it's funny that we only got this story because Arty had a spontaneous idea and churned out a 40 page story in a couple days. Some things never change

It was a nice little story. Low stakes and low stress which is unusual for those characters. :) I liked that Ana was approaching what to buy for Didrixe the same way she would another mystery.

I'm about 90% sure I know who Ana's dad is supposed to be. It could be nothing but I'm pretty confident given what we've seen so far. There's only one thing that throws me off but I'd like to see it be true. If I am right it could be a lot of fun.

RIGHT and remember hex tag where grandma just took away mom's ability to walk and made her fall all the way down the stairs, or set Vixel's hair on fire LOL. Also I wanted to tell you I started watching Owl Hosue and I haven't seen much of the green haired girl yet but I get similar vibes from the rest of the show which ALSO reminds me of The Addams Family. So I'm pretty sure I'm gonna love Owl House. Luz already gives big Ana energy though and it's great. (I don't want to take up this thread though so I'll send you a million long texts you'll wake up to in the morning LOVE YOU)
